Forsyth County Commissioners held the second of two public hearings on changes to the county’s alcohol ordinance to include allowances for the delivery of alcohol, take-out packaged alcohol and mixed drinks.

The board of directors unanimously approved the changes at a regular meeting on Thursday, September 16. Below is a breakdown of the approved changes.

Conditional license

With a new condition, applicants will be able to apply for a conditional liquor license with a one-time renewal.

If the applicant is unable to meet the requirements to get an approved liquor license before the second conditional license renewal, they will be called for a public hearing before the council where the Commissioners can decide whether a further renewal should be made. allowed.

Alcohol delivery

Grocery stores, retail packaging stores, restaurants, breweries and other on-site consumption locations will be affected by the change.

Customers may order alcohol delivery from the approved locations above with a qualifying entry order.

Alcohol may only be sold for delivery on the day and time that the sale of beer, wine or distilled spirits is available.

Delivery drivers must be 21 years of age or older and be an employee of the liquor retail licensee or a third party service that has a contract with the licensee. Drivers must also complete an alcoholic beverage delivery training course and carry the training certificate in the car or be accessible by electronic device.

Tastings and tastings of alcoholic beverages

With this change, retail packaging stores can host up to 52 tasting events per calendar year on their premises. Each tasting must not exceed four hours and must take place in a space closed to the public.

Only one type of alcoholic beverage can be served, including up to 8 ounces of malt beverages, or beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits.

Stewards must be notified before an event takes place.

Alcohol to take away

Licensed restaurants may sell take out liquor orders for customers in the original sealed containers with a qualifying food order or main course. Topless or open containers are prohibited.
