Equinix invests over $9 million to acquire land in Chennai for expansion

Equinix Inc, a digital infrastructure company, today announced an investment of over $9 million to acquire a plot of land in Chennai on a long-term lease basis as part of its expansion strategy and growth in India.
According to a Nasscom report, more than 80 third-party data centers are currently operational in India, and investments from local and international players are expected to reach $4.6 billion per year by 2025.

The plot of land is located in State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (SIPCOT) Computer Park, offering a total space of over 5.5 acres. It is strategically located in Siruseri region, known as Chennai IT Corridor, with large upcoming IT parks and well-established telecommunications networks, the company said in a press release.

In 2021, Equinix entered India through the acquisition of two data centers in Mumbai, named MB1 and MB2. The two data centers in Mumbai house the digital infrastructure of many global organizations and provide a total of 1,350 cabinets.
